When you are out in a kayak, the last thing you want to worry about is gaining access to your equipment. I found that the DIY PVC rod holder was one of the best additions I have made to the kayak. The rod holder can easily be adapted to hold rods, tools, cameras, etc. The holder is removable and can be collapsed for storage. The advantages of the holder is that it keeps your reels above any wake or splash from the kayak reducing the amount of water that the reels are exposed to. The holder also serves as a good tool holder that can be easily reached from the seat. I found the basic design of the rod holder on youtube but had to do a few modifications to get it the way I wanted.

Youtube link I used as the basic design is below.

The rod holder is shown in my Tarpon 120. The GoPro mount was made by heating the end of the PVC pipe with a heat gun until the point it softened. Once soft, the tube was flattened (metal spatula and counter top) so that it would fit in the mount of the GoPro case. A square groove was cut into the flattened part and then a hole was drilled to feed the tightening screw through. The video from the GoPro was much more stable than expected and the pvc base can be easily rotated while kayaking. A short clip of video recorded on a trip can be seen below.
