Spanish Mackerel Reference Videos

Spanish mackerel is one of my favorite fish to catch.  Along the way I found some great youtube videos showing different fishing techniques, fishing tackle, and cook or uncooked eats for this beautiful fish.  Below is a list of favorite videos I have put together.

Sushi/Sashimi

This video is incredibly well done and will have you wanting to try it raw.  In the US, regulations require that raw fish is pre-frozen before serving in restaurants etc. as a safety precaution.  The deep freezing is capable of killing parasites which can vary based on fish type and where you catch them.  Sushi Everyday does not freeze and I believe knows what he is doing.  If you disagree don't hate.  If you enjoy the video, please share, like, and support Sushi Everyday.

Fishing Tackle-Catching

Bluefish will eat just about anything but rumor has it that spanish mackerel are very leader shy.  These two toothy fish can lead to many lost or bit off lures but that is the price you play to increase your chances of catching them.  Spoons or gotcha plugs are great tackle to use from piers or the surf.  The best combination I have found for using gotcha plugs or casting lures is a braid to fluorocarbon to lure combo.  Since I make my own lures and bite offs aren't as painful, I tend to go with lighter line such as 15lb braid and 15-20lb fluorocarbon.  A double uni knot is a great way to combine the lines with a small knot that doesn't interfere much with casting.  Below is a video of how to tie that knot.
